City Outreach

Memphis, Tennessee has a rich history. Ask anyone who has ever lived here and you will hear about the birthplace of the blues, rock-n-roll, gospel music, Elvis, and yes, some good ol’ Memphis BBQ!

But not too much later, you may hear a turn in the conversation to multiple recent statistics (note: statistics are people), with Memphis being ranked as top of the poorest metro cities in the nation, highest child poverty, highest percentage of youth not in school or working, most dangerous neighborhoods, more aggravated assaults per capita, most unbanked households, lowest chance of families climbing out of poverty, and the lists go on and on...

When Jesus began His ministry, the first words He stood up to read were from Isaiah 61, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted. To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”

It wouldn’t surprise us if we heard that God prophetically had Memphis on His mind when inspiring this writing thousands of years ago. Notice that poor people were not last on the ministry list. The outcasts weren’t the ones receiving the left-over attention from Jesus. These were the people He was sent to minister to. The sick and downcast were His priority!

Jesus Christ is still the hope for humanity! The gospel of Christ shared in word and in action when believed can produce the power to change the entire city of Memphis! Politics can’t do that, laws can’t do that. Not rallies, not wars, but the gospel of Jesus Christ can revolutionize this city! Jesus loves Memphis, and so do we!
We would love to have you join us for an upcoming City Outreach Event.
